St. Anne Seychelles

St. Anne Island is the largest of the six islands that make up the St. Anne National Marine Park and is situated in front of Victoria harbour. St. Anne was the site of the first settlement in Seychelles some 220 years ago by a group of French settlers.
The island then was surrounded by mangroves which contained many crocodiles, these were all wiped out many years ago. In 1832 a whaling station was set up which traded until 1915. It is somewhat ironic that St. Anne is now headquarters to the Marine National Park . Presently the island is off limits to the public but plans are afoot to build a hotel resort within the square mile island.
The island is dominated by a large mountain peak which rises to 800feet, surrounded by thick tropical vegetation. St Anne is now one of the most important nesting sites for Hawksbill turtles amongst the granitic islands.
