Silhouette Island Seychelles

Silhouette Island

Silhouette is an island covered with lush equatorial
forests waiting to be explored by hikers
and nature lovers.

Situated only 19 kilometers west of Mahe, this island had maintained its purity due to the difficulty of landing there in the past.  Now, with the long pier, a dinghy ferries visitors from boats offshore to the pier that stretches out from the shore.  There are no roads, only pathways, and consequently no automobiles.  With no vehicular traffic and no crime, there is also no police station nor even a post office.  La Passe, the ‘port’ for the island, is the starting point for the trek to Grand Barbe on the west coast.  The walk is through dense equatorial forest.  Schedule a full day, start out early in the day, and hire a local guide to accompany you.  Make sure you or your guide has an axe or machete to clear the way through the extremely dense vegetation.
