In 1977, the Nestos Pass was included as an “Aesthetic Forest” region and is legally protected. ?n addition to this, it is also protected under the European Union Directive (79/409) for the Special Protected Areas of Wild Birds.
Nestos River Valley is rich with flora and fauna and may different kind of birds inhibit the trees along side the river banks
