Accra

Capital and largest city of Ghana, on the Gulf of Guinea . Accra is an important commercial, manufacturing and communication center. It’s the site of an international airport and focus of the country’s railroad system, including a link to nearby Tema, which since 1962 has served as the city’s deepwater port. Industries include vehicle and appliance assembly, petroleum refinery and brewery.

Accra is a vibrant modern city. The commercial and political heart of Ghana, Accra is a modern gateway to one of Africa’s ancient lands. Accra has a rich blend of old and new cultures.. It is a multicultural city where people from all nationalities and tribes blend in beautifully. It has busy and bustling markets like Kaneshie, Kantamanto and the 31st December market where great bargains can be found. Another great attribute about the place is the beatiful beaches found in the Accra vicinity. there is the beautiful Labadi pleasure beach, the elegant Kokrobite beach just 25 Km from Accra.

One cannot talk about Accra without mentioning the two extreme living conditions in the city. There are areas like Chorkor, Nima, Teshie and Bukom which has poor and deplorable living conditions. Then there are places like East Legon, and Sakumono Estates which will put many parts of New york to shame. The people living in these places also have divergent lifestyles. The people living in the poor places are either poor petty traders or fishermen. on the other hand, the people the people living in the plush areas are mostly businessmen and women.
