History of Brunei

Brunei Darussalam is located at the geographic centre of Asia on the island of Borneo. It is a small and self sufficient nation, protected by the political stability of the longest serving family monarchy in the world. The current Sultan, Hassnanal Bolkiah, has been the benevolant ruler of Brunei since 1967. The country is also financially secure because of its oil and natural gas resources.

With a population of only around 300,000, the county enjoys one of the highest standards of living in the region. Medical facilities, education, housing and other community services are either free or heavily subsidised by the government.

Brunei is a safe haven for ancient rainforests, mangroves, wildlife and reefs. Accommodation ranges from the simplest jungle chalets to 6 star luxury resorts. It is a unique blend of modern facilities and services with traditional lifestyles, Islamic values and Malay culture.

Visiting the Jungle is relatively safe with Malaria having been eradicated from Brunei over 20 years ago.
